What are the advantages of molecular distillation from traditional distillation?

Molecular distillation is a special liquid separation technology. It is different from the traditional distillation based on the boiling point difference separation principle, but based on the difference of the average free path of different substances. Molecular distillation is a distillation method operated under high vacuum. The average free path of vapor molecules is greater than the distance between evaporation surface and condensation surface, so the difference of evaporation rate of each component in the feed liquid can be used to separate the mixture.

Traditional distillation depends on the difference of boiling points of different substances, so it is difficult to separate some substances that are easy to oxidize, decompose or polymerize at boiling temperature.

The separation function of molecular distillation is to separate substances by using that liquid molecules escape from the liquid surface when heated, and the average free path of different types of molecules is different.

The mixed liquid flows down the heating plate. After heating, both light and heavy molecules escape into the gas phase. Because the free path of light molecules is different from that of heavy molecules, the free path of light molecules is large, so they can reach the plate concentrator and go down along the plate of the concentrator after condensation. When flowing, the free path of heavy molecules is small, which can not reach the condensation surface, saturates in the gas phase, returns to the liquid phase, and flows downward along the heating plate, so as to form the division and separation of light and heavy molecules.

Molecular distillation has the characteristics of high operating vacuum, low heating temperature, short heating time and high separation degree. It is especially suitable for the separation of high boiling point, heat sensitive and easily oxidized substances.

Compared with traditional distillation, molecular distillation has obvious technical and economic advantages:

1. High product quality. Due to the low operating temperature and short heating time of molecular distillation, products with high purity and good original quality can be obtained, which is particularly important for natural substances.

2. Low product cost. Due to the high separation efficiency and high product yield of molecular distillation, the production cost can be greatly reduced.
